 Chora, the town of Skiathos is the point of reference of the island.

The town of Skiathos is amphitheatrically built around a small bay, which is divided in two parts by the small, full of pine trees, peninsula of Bourtzi, to the left and right of which the old and the new harbor respectively are located. Papadiamanti street is the main road. Almost the entire commercial activity is concentrated here, as well as to the alleys to its right and left. Lower on the street you will find a sign "House Museumof Alexandros Papadiamantis". Visiting the place where the great prose writer lived and died is always a pilgrimage.

 

At Bourtzi, you can go for a romantic walk and see the cultural center and the open air theatre.

In the morning, boats for daily sea trips launch from the old harbor, while at night the atmosphere is cosmopolitan, with people walking on the waterfront or sitting in one of the restaurants, cafes, bars, or the famous "bolsters”.

 

You can visit the metropolitan church of Tris lerarches (Three Hierarchs) (1864) and worship the icon of Virgin Mary the Iconistria (of the icons). while at a small distance the churches of AgiaTriada and Virgin Mary Limnaia (of the lake) with the impressive stone bell tower are located.

 

It is a unique experience to walk through the cob bled roads between Papadiamanti street and the old harbor, next to musky yards, which sometimes end up to small squares, and other times where you started off(!), while all kinds of small shops, stores, taverns or bars turn up at every corner.

From the beginning of the new harbor, an uphill cobbled road leads us to the church of Saint Nicolas on the hill, which offers a panoramic view to the town.

It is also worth walking up to "tarsanas" where ships get repaired, and up to the lake, a significant wetland for migratory birds. The airport is located to your left (you can enjoy the unique landings, as the airplanes are descending almost over your heads!), while the road, which is in front of the run way, leads to Xanemos beach.
